Pro Plus Courses
Ten Stage Stone Setting Program
Foundation Skills Learn the essential principles of seat preparation and cutting the bearing for a stone. Once you can shape the inner claw correctly, you’ll have the foundation for all other types of setting. ⚠️ Do not advance until this stage is complete — these are the skills everything else depends on.
Burnished Flush Setting Advance to smaller stones with precision burring. Learn to create seats at the exact depth and diameter so stones fit without movement. You’ll finish by burnishing the lip securely — the perfect preparation for pavé setting later.
Advanced Band Setting Progress to advanced placement where one claw secures two stones. Perfect spacing is essential — even a small error may cause stones to clash or loosen. You’ll explore design variations for wedding bands and solitaire shoulders.
Advanced Graver Work This stage builds engraving confidence. Practice marking out and pre-cutting star and square frames, then raise rows of beads using the push-and-lift technique. Though less common in the trade today, these skills develop crucial graver control.
Multi-Stone Setting with Gravers & Beaders Learn professional pavé techniques: forming and lifting beads, bright cutting, and finishing. Includes setting cluster patterns on ring blanks. All previous skills combine here — precision, bead raising, and clean finishing are essential.
Flush Setting Faceted Stones. Take your claw setting principles and apply them to closed settings. Here, you’ll learn to cut a seat where you cannot see the profile, focusing on precision and stone pavilion shape. Includes setting for square and princess cuts.
First Stage Band / Thread Setting Learn to plan stone placement in a row, using fine saw cutting and burring to form decorative scallops. You’ll prepare and seat each stone with four individual claws. Focus is on precision and minimal movement before forming claw tips.
Clawless Band Setting Learn to create sleek, modern channel settings. Round stones are set by preparing individual seats and opening wall lips. Square stones require the push-along (shunt) method. Includes tool tips — such as using a Dremel or making your own tools.
Pre-Carving Claws & Decorative Cutting Take your engraving and burring precision to the next level. Learn how to prepare grains before lifting and securing stones. Includes fish-tail setting — a classic decorative method for eternity rings.
Modern Multi-Stone Micro Setting Micro pavé is the most contemporary style of setting, often seen in CAD/CAM jewellery. Learn how to mark out rows using a custom tool, then carve and set multiple stones with accuracy. This course requires patience and practice, but no specialised equipment beyond your normal bench tools.
