This course will be great for those at a high intermediate to advanced level. It is broken down into step by step instructions so it isn’t impossible for beginners either, however some prior use of gouache and watercolour paints will help with these lessons.
You will be shown how to draw both crown and pavilion facets and gain a further understanding of how light theory applies to diamonds when it reflects and refracts in diamonds.
Materials needed:
-Gemstone templates (PDF attachment created)
-2H lead pencil (standard pencil or mechanical pencil)
-Eraser/ Kneadable eraser
-Two water pots. (One for cleaning the brushes in and the other to add clean water to paints)
-Tissue/ paper towel
-Ruler
-Grey scale paper (I use liviano colour card A4 smooth surface 180gsm) You can use any toned watercolour paper. It’s easier to render on grey scale paper and helps make colours pop and diamonds easier to paint. Another brand I use is Canson Mi Teintes Pastel Paper grey tones.
-Brushes- size 0 or 00, size 1 or 2 natural hair round brushes. (Use what your are comfortable with. Natural hair brushes tend to be better for watercolour paints rather than synthetic hair.) If you are not sure just ask your art store for watercolour brushes and they will help you find the right ones.
-Watercolour paints - Brand - Koh-l-Noor water colour discs. (There are other brands that look the same which will work as well) We are only using the grey from this set. (Please watch the free video “materials” in the “Introduction to drawing and rendering free series”, as they are shown there)
-Winsor and Newton Designers Gouache- Permanent White series 1
-Winsor and Newton Designers Gouache- Zinc White series 1
